History
What started as a modest sand and gravel transshipment company in Wessem in the year 1968 has evolved into one of the biggest logistics service providers in the area where it concerns bulk goods storage, transshipment and processing. In the nineteen eighties and nineties, our trading operations were extended significantly with sites in Maastricht and Lanaken. The company also started offering logistics services in storage and transshipment of building materials and minerals. In 1995, WPS took a big step forward by acquiring DSM's logistics operations in Stein, which served as the foundation for fast and impressive growth in its logistics activities for regional industries. The company developed as a mature manager of its customers total supply chain, among other things by extending its own transport operations. WPS and its partners established a number of joint ventures to safeguard its knowledge and services and expand the services package. The Container Terminal Stein was founded in 2004. It is one of only a few independent container terminals in the Netherlands. A new transshipment terminal for bulk goods called Port Terminal Limburg was established on the Albert Channel in Lanaken in 2009. More recently, Railport Lanaken became operational in 2011. The company has several planned investments for the near future to keep its operations up-to-date.
